History of The NWPA
In 1972 the first Pinzgauer cattle were imported into Canada. Dr Holtz became president of the International Association about that time and that is the reason they were finally able to start importing Pinzgauers. Bill Tobler imported the first fullblood into Canada which was Red Raider.
In 1973 several U.S. Breeders started using frozen Pinzgauer semen and artificially inseminating their cattle. These breeders included Montana breeders: Dr. Gus Salbador, Chet Sinnema and Bud Bolinger. About that time they started Montana Breeders Association. Joe and Lance Fletcher bought 150 ampules of semen from Pinzgauer Breeders Limited that same year and bred their Hereford cattle in Wyoming. In 1974 Alvene Leinweber started inseminating his cattle with Pinzgauer and in 1975 he imported 3 fullbloods from Canada.
The American Pinzgauer (APA) was formed in 1974 and Allen Larsen was the first president followed by Doug Mabray in 1975, Joe Fletcher in 1977, Kermit Gardner in 1978, Bud Bollinger in 1979, Dan Scott in 1980 and Alvene Leinwebber in 1985.
Some of the breeders contacted the Montana association and purchased the corporation from them to start the Northwest Pinzgauer Association. If any one knows the year, please contact someone on the NWPA board and let them know.
